Theme Travel in Bulgaria: Travel in the footsteps of communism

Summary of the trip:

Bulgaria was a communist regime for 52 years, since 1947 until 1989, and therefore it had the support of the USSR. Although it's currently a democracy and belongs to the European Union, of the communist era are many brands in the country: great monuments, factories, physiognomy of cities, and of course customs and culture. On this trip a tour of the country that allows time travel is, knowing that lifestyle in an instructive way, yet fun looking for an adventure trip.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Sofia - Airport pickup Sofia, Welcome for Spanish speaking chauffeur, Each tourist is made gift of a red tie style communist era. transfer to a typical communist-era hotel is done. Overnight in a hotel 2** Sofia.

 

 

 

 

Day 2: Sofia – Pravets – Pleven / ca. .. 180 km. We started with Bulgarian breakfast - the style of the communist era. Departure to Pravets, birthplace of Todor Zhivkov (Communist leader in Bulgaria in the period 1954-1989), who was visiting the home and is now a museum about its history. We will make a presentation on the history of Communism in Bulgaria. After transfer to the city of Pleven, visit to “Pleven Epic 1877” which is building a museum and singular communist and is the most majestic monument to military glory of Russia and Bulgarian-Russian friendship. It was established in memory of 100 year anniversary of the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule in 1977 in which he collaborated Russia. Day 3: Pleven – Arbanassi – Veliko Tarnovo / ca. .. 140 km.

Departure to Arbanassi which is a remarkable village by the stunning architecture of houses and churches with rich interior decoration, wood carvings and mural paintings created in XVI – XVII century . Lunch (optional) in a former communist residence built in Arbanassi 1975 by the president Todor Zhivkov; Today the residence is a hotel. After the town of Veliko Tarnovo which is contiguous to Arbanassi (4 km) view of the medieval fortress Tsarevets and walk the street Samovodska typical traditional Bulgarian style. Overnight in Veliko Tarnovo Interhotel 4 star hotel built in the time of communism.

Day 4: Veliko Tarnovo – Buzludzha – Kazanlak / ca.. 100 km.

Visitamos el edificio Buzludzha. It really is a historic mount Buzludzha in the mountains of the Central Balkan. The final battle between Bulgarian rebels and Turks took place in Buzludzha 1868. Shortly after, in the year 1891, supporters of socialist ideas met secretly in this area to create an organized socialist movement. Day 5: Kazanlak – Sofia / 230 km approx.

Visit the Museum of Socialist Art (closed on Mondays), where you can see a short movie of the past, see some statues of leaders and some art of the communist period in Bulgaria. Visit the park Bell, built en 1979 the daughter of Todor Zhivkov (Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Bulgaria from 1954 until 1989) in honor of all the world's children. Day 6: Sofia – Pernik – Radomir – Sofia / ca. .. 120 km.

Pernik is the largest center of coal mining and heavy industry in Bulgaria. In 1899, in Pernik the first power plant installed in Bulgaria. Visit the Mining Museum (closed on Sundays).

In the town of Radomir gray color is the predominant color, surrounded by concrete housing blocks, the visitor feels as if I were the socialist era on a trip through time. Local shops are still poorly stocked, as it was during the time of Communism. The town developed in the past due to heavy industry plant based there. Return to Sofia – farewell dinner at a restaurant communist decor (optional). Overnight in a hotel 2** star Sofia.

 

Day 7: Sofia – Breakfast at hotel, airport transfer and farewell.
