On this trip that we propose you will be able to do a complete tour in Bulgaria in a week with a guide or self-guided. They will be able to cross one of the most emblematic mountains of the Balkan Peninsula: the Central Balkan mountain range and visit some impressive Bulgarian natural phenomena such as rivers, lush forests, mountains, etc…
In addition, the tour will allow you to know the interior Bulgaria, both ancient cities such as Sofia and Plovdiv, like its traditional villages with their exotic architecture, its rich gastronomy and a mixture of Slavic cultures, Bulgarian, Ottoman, mediterranean, etc. which is unique in Europe.
It will be an unforgettable life experience and you will get to know a very picturesque country compared to the usual tourist destinations in the rest of Europe in terms of architecture, traditions, gastronomy, etc…
To make this trip we reserve accommodation for you and a Spanish-speaking driver takes care of the road transfers, it also helps travelers with the language in hotels, restaurants, etc… and provides tourist information on the places of interest that are being visited.
Here we present the proposed itinerary to see Bulgaria in a week , because it is a short time it is an intensive program, changing hotel daily, to be able to see as much of Bulgaria as possible in a week but we can vary its duration if you indicate it, since our specialty is private tailor-made trips.
Travel by plane and arrival in the capital, Sofia. Group pick up at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Then walk through the center of Sofia, administrative capital of the country, we will visit the huge Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the hot springs for public use in the heart of the city and we will walk through its lively streets. We leave by road towards the city of Plovdiv to 143 km ( 1 h 45 min. approximately by highway). accommodation . In Plovdiv, guided tour of the city. The history of the city of Plovdiv dates back to 6.000 years before Christ, being the oldest inhabited city in Europe, more than Athens and Rome, even, and older than Istanbul. There you will be able to know its famous old town with its houses in the style of the Bulgarian Renaissance of the XIX century, the amphitheater and roman ruins, the ottoman mosque, etc. Plovdiv is declared a European City of Culture 2019. We will do a guided walking tour in the morning, after lunch free time for travelers to rest, keep seeing the city at your own pace or go shopping. Dinner and then overnight in hotel 3*** from Plovdiv city center, ideal for sightseeing around the city on foot.
In the morning after breakfast we leave the hotel and after a short transfer from 28 km (35 minutes) we arrive at the Bachkovo Orthodox Monastery which is the second in size and importance in Bulgaria ( the first is the Rila Monastery, that we can also visit at the end of the tour).
Then transfer to the center of the country to the city of Kazanlak (138 km, 1 h 50 min) located in what is known as "Valley of the Roses" due to the wide extension of the cultivation of roses in this area.
In Kazanlak we can visit its Museum of the Rose, dedicated to the history and production of rose oil for cosmetics and food (Bulgaria is the world's leading producer). Hotel accommodation 3*** on the outskirts of Kazanlak, dinner and overnight.
In the morning we can visit the Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak, UNESCO World Heritage (the scale copy is visited 1:1 of the original that is closed to ensure its conservation). The guide will explain who were the Thracians in this incomparable place, a mausoleum honoring a Thracian king dating from the 4th century BC.
Leaving Kazanlak we enter the Central Balkan mountain range, but we will make a stop to see the Shipka Church, known as the Church “Russian” of Shipka for its aesthetics similar to the famous churches of Russia. It was built in tribute to Russia for helping Bulgaria break free from Ottoman occupation in the late 19th century.
After the visit to Shipka we continue along roads between green and wooded mountains to reach the town of typical Bulgarian architecture of Bozhentsi ( a 60 km, 1 h 20 min in Kazanlak). Dinner and overnight at Hotel 3*** rural style of Bozhentsi. The hotel has a restaurant-covered terrace, ideal for a dinner outdoors trying the typical Bulgarian recipes.
After breakfast at the hotel, in the middle of the tranquility of this typical town, short walk through the town of Bozhentsi which is a town that seems stopped in time, from the time of the 19th century, with its cobbled streets and its houses with roofs of large slate plates. More of 100 houses are preserved in their original form and some can be visited as museums.
After this walk, transfer to the city of Veliko Tarnovo to 45 km, 50 min. Once there, you will first visit the Tsarevets Architectural Reserve, an impressive 12th century walled fortress in medieval style from the time when Veliko Tarnovo was the capital of Bulgaria. The driver will leave you at the main entrance of the fortress so that you can enter directly on foot and visit it at your leisure, at the exit he will wait for you to take a walk through the center of Veliko Tarnovo, eat and leave by road to the neighboring town of Arbanassi. In the morning, walk through Arbanassi to see its old houses, which were owned by wealthy merchants in the 17th century and now some can be visited as house-museums.
Then transfer to the center of the Central Balkan Mountains to visit the Troyan Monastery (104 km, 1 h 26 min), the third in size in the country and in our opinion the most beautiful for its well-preserved old construction.
Short transfer to the town of Chiflik (14 km, 20 min) where you can stay in a hotel with an outdoor pool with hot spring water (not chlorinated), where you can bathe at any time and at any time of year thanks to the fact that the pool is filled with natural thermal water. Dinner and overnight in hotel 3***.
After breakfast transfer to the city of Koprivshtitsa (90 km, 1h 50 min) crossing the mountain pass from North to South. It is a town with magnificent examples of 18th and 19th century Bulgarian Renaissance houses belonging to the wealthiest families of the time. It is called a city-museum because nothing less than 383 monuments and buildings as artistic heritage of Bulgaria. We will take a guided walk to see the most outstanding house-museums.
Depending on the departure time of the flights you choose, we will make the final transfer to Sofia airport (114 km, 1 time 45 minutes), farewell by the guide and return flight.

If you have an extra day to travel to Bulgaria, since normally the flights are on specific days of the week, for example from Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday, etc…, then they can take a trip of 8 days and take the opportunity to see the Rila Monastery which is the most famous exponent of the Orthodox monasteries of Bulgaria. This monastery is located isolated within the Rila National Park a 2 sofia hours, so it requires a full day to visit it, but it is worth it because it is the most respected and famous monastery in Bulgaria, is located in a beautiful valley surrounded by wooded hills and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
